EDIFACT

The standard EDIFACT enables the substitution of the document-based business processing between companies and authorities by the standardised electronic data exchange (EDI).

EDIFACT is the abbreviation for "Electronic Data Interchange for Administration Commerce and Transport". It is a global standard the development of which is attributable to the UNO and which was already approved and registered as ISO 9735 in September 1987 by the International Standard Organisation. The term “EDI” includes different concepts for the electronic processing of business transactions between different companies, branches and countries.

Structured data such as orders and invoices are exchanges between each other in standard formats, whereby many processes are accelerated and whereby costs can be reduced. The different branches introduced in this respect different standards, such as, for example S.W.I.F.T. for the banks.

The allocation of a bank code to the corresponding EDIFACT identification (contains only information communicated to us) enables you to use our interactive queries.

In the “download EDIFACT” area you will find a detailed description of the communications and information used for the use of EDIFACT in Austrian payment transfers.

EDIFACT in Austria

The Austrian banks have already implemented the EDIFACT standard in payment transfers. The exchange of data between the customer and the bank and between the banks now takes place by means of the internationally standardised EDIFACT.

You will find the international documentation of the EDIFACT standard on the pages of UN/ECE.
